Training terms, in plain words
What training load, heart rate zones, VO2 max and the other numbers from your Apple Watch mean, and what Kiiro calls them.
Acute load
Acute load reflects your recent training effort, mostly from the past week. It tracks short-term fatigue.
Fitness level
Fitness level looks at your longer-term training, roughly the past six weeks. It represents your training base.
HRV (heart rate variability)
HRV is the small changes in time between each heartbeat. It shows how well your body can handle stress and recover.
Load balance and status
Also known as ACWR or acute:chronic workload ratio
Load balance compares your current training load with your long-term fitness. Your status, from Undertrained to Overtrained, is the one-word version of it.
Resting heart rate
Resting heart rate is the number of times your heart beats in one minute when you are calm and not moving. A lower value usually means a fitter heart.
Training load
Also known as TRIMP or training impulse
Training load is how much strain your workouts put on your body. It combines how long and how hard you trained into one number.
VO2 max
VO2 max is the amount of oxygen your body can use when you exercise your hardest. It shows how fit your heart and lungs are.
Zone 2
Zone 2 is easy aerobic effort, the pace at which you can still hold a conversation. In a five-zone model it is 60 to 70% of your maximum heart rate.
